Brian wins the Gold at First E-Mass IndividualsOur first year with better (and somewhat familiar) uniforms, thanks largely to Boston Crusader's (our parent corps) decision to get new uniforms. Never the less - it gave Phoenix a new look, and reinforced our attitudes and our music. This year we had a sneak peek at what was to come - Eastern Mass held its first individuals competition. Phoenix sent one of its best, most talented, and dedicated snare drummer - Brian Flahive - to the competitions. Needless to say he represented Phoenix very well - so well that he came back with the gold! Way to go, Brian! This year we played "Hall of the Mountain King" from the Peer Grunt suite, "Fourth of July" from the movie "Born on the Fourth of July", our first proprietory drum solo (dubbed COOL BEANS by our drum line, written by Bob "don't take my cap off" Matheson and Paul Simpon), and closing with a movement from the ballad Sylvia. This year also showed a remarkable increase in membership (as well as obtaining several experienced instructors). Watch out, world! Here comes Phoenix! The Phoenix rises!!
