1997 was a continuation of the success 1996 brought - and also a preview of the big things to come.  The corps grew.  Many, many individuals made contributions to the year's success - including parents taking out a loan themselves to secure the corps a bigger trailer (it's in the background of the fourth picture), and instructors volunteering hours upon hours of their own time to write and teach the music - some even drive two hours on many days of the week during competition. 

The program for 1997 was the most difficult for Phoenix yet - a rocking version of Yanni's "Santorini", "Heart's Cry" from the hit Riverdance, an intense fast-moving proprietory drum solo ("COOL BEANS II"), ending with an even more demanding "Jupiter", from the Planets Suite by Gustav Holst.

1997 was a big year - we were named the 1997 Eastern Mass Class A Champions -  we won just about every caption.  9 members of our corps received first-place honors at the Eastern Mass Individual Competitions (Individual Snare, Percussion Ensemble (4 players), Individual Keyboard, Individual Guard, Guard Ensemble, and Individual Timpanis)

Besides the awards, Phoenix made its first debut into the DCI Atlantic Circuit, placing 8th out of 28 corps at the Division Finals at Erie, PA, and 20th place out of 38 corps at the DCI Summer Music Games at Orlando, FL.  Our drum line placed 13th out of 38 drum lines.
